American Lung Association of the Northeast Launches “Air Quality Champion” Program, Names EnergySage as First Champion

Online Solar Marketplace Gives Consumers the Power of Transparency and Choice When Shopping for Solar Systems, Increasing Solar Adoption and Promoting Clean Energy

Press Release

BOSTON, MA – November 16, 2015

The American Lung Association of the Northeast and EnergySage today announced that the organizations have aligned as part of the Association’s new Air Quality Champion Program to promote adoption of clean, renewable energy. The American Lung Association of the Northeast selected EnergySage as its first Air Quality Champion for the role it plays in helping consumers go solar and more affordably power their homes and businesses with clean energy.

Natural air currents are putting Northeast states on the receiving end of pollutants from several of the nation’s most polluted cities. Poor air quality can cause severe health risks such as asthma attacks, reduced lung function and even premature death. However, utilizing solar power is one way to turn the tides and significantly reduce emissions that contribute to poor air quality. In fact, going solar reduces carbon dioxide emissions each year by 11,500 lbs. (~5 tons), which is equivalent to planting approximately 135 trees each year.

As part of its mission to make the air we all breathe clean and safe, the American Lung Association of the Northeast has joined forces with EnergySage to help boost the adoption of rooftop solar energy. The EnergySage Online Solar Marketplace provides homeowners with an unbiased destination where they can easily research and comparison-shop for the solar energy system and financing package that best meets their needs. Statistics show that EnergySage’s solar shoppers adopt solar across the country at rates two to three times higher than industry averages.

“Our health, economic opportunities, and quality of life all depend on clean air – it’s a strategic imperative that, as a nation, we embrace renewable energy sources like solar power,” said Casey Harvell, Public Policy Director for Massachusetts at the American Lung Association of the Northeast. “The EnergySage solar marketplace is an objective and easy way for consumers to evaluate multiple options, calculate energy savings and make a well-informed decision about going solar. As an advocate for the consumer and means for expanding adoption of sustainable energy across the country, EnergySage personifies our ideal Air Quality Champion.”

The American Lung Association launched the Air Quality Champion Program as a pilot in Massachusetts with the goal of engaging 10 additional champions by year end. The association is actively seeking companies and organizations that are serving as advocates for clean, healthy energy and/or those which have taken steps to reduce their own carbon footprint. The American Lung Association hopes to expand the program’s presence across all of the Northeast states in 2016.

“We share the American Lung Association of the Northeast’s dedication to promoting clean energy for healthy air, and are honored to be named an Air Quality Champion,” said EnergySage CEO Vikram Aggarwal. “By providing price transparency and the power of choice, we are helping homeowners discover that going solar is more affordable than they may have thought. Many homeowners recognize the environmental benefits of going solar, but when they can comparison-shop online and easily see the financial benefits on their screen, they are much more likely to take action.”
